The Tribune breaks down Rahm Emanuel’s residency hearing today

An activist known as Queen Sister Georgetta Deloney, who wore a golden headpiece, offered more statements than questions. ”Knowing the rules of the game, how could you, being the player, player that you are, not secure a residence in Chicago?” she asked before Emanuel’s lawyers objected.

Deloney also asked why Emanuel would leave prized possessions in the basement of the home he rented, referencing testimony earlier in the day about Emanuel and his wife leaving items including her wedding dress and a coat from his grandfather stored in their Hermitage Avenue home after leasing it.

Emanuel contends he would not leave treasured possessions in the home if he wasn’t coming back to it, and he mentioned that his grandfather’s winter coat is “the only possession I have of my grandfather.”

Deloney appeared to mock that in her question, asking why he left his grandfather’s “technicolor dreamcoat” with a stranger. After another questioner took over, Emanuel responded.

“I’d like the record to show it’s not a technicolor dreamcoat,” Emanuel said. “It’s an imitation leather jacket my grandfather gave my father.”
